A small clan hundreds of years ago kept up and lived at a shrine in Iwagakure. Whenever someone died the family members and friends would come to this shrine and pray for the person’s soul to travel peacefully to the next life. The members of the clan would help with the ceremony, even leading the family in prayer. When the first ninja war started the small shrine grew as the number of deaths increased. With so much hate and pain and death the shrine became a bitter place instead of the peaceful place it had once been. Despite the change the Hashimoto family was determined to continue their work and help souls pass through. Unfortunately with a war on few people had time to come and pray for the souls, instead they merely dropped off the bodies to be buried. It fell upon the family to pray for the souls, and the more time the Hashimoto’s had with the mutilated bodies and lost souls the more they started to realize that they could hear and actually see the people that had passed on. As time went on the clan slowly developed a form of Necromancy, which allowed them to speak with and consult the dead. During the second ninja war the clan told Iwagakure about their ability and the majority of Hashimotos joined the shinobi ranks to protect the village. They were mainly information gatherers – using their powers to summon back the spirits of ninjas to gain information about the enemy’s intentions and movements. The war took a toll on the clan however; which had been growing in size only to be reduced to a pathetic number after the war. The Hashimoto clan had limited training compared to other ninja, although they were known for their talent with weapons. After the war the remainder of the clan met up and decided to step away from the old ways and become normal citizens. Some of the members wanted to keep up the practice, but they were outvoted by the majority. The clan had gained quite a bit of money despite the loss of life and the few remaining clan members shut down the shrine and retired from the business of death. Over time their friendly and well played moves gained them a respected spot in Iwagakure’s nobility, and by the end of the third great ninja war most of everyone had forgotten about the Hashimotos' abilities, except of course, the family itself. As time wore on fewer and fewer members remembered the family's past, but a small group of them secretly continued practicing necromancy. If the rest of the clan found out about those who practiced they would be shunned. But despite the rest of the clan's wish to forget about their past, a few traditions stayed with them. Their large house was filled with burning incense and dim lanterns while the grounds were decorated with traditional rock gardens and statues to honor the dead. They were also known for their more plain style of dress compared to other nobility, which would have been looked down upon if it wasn’t for the fantastic ceremonial family jewelry passed down through the generations. The Hashimotos had great respect and pull in all of the lands, creating many bonds of friendship and business over the years. This was the clan Tami was born into; being raised as a proper young lady with good manners and a spotless smile. It would be correct to say that she was rather spoiled, thinking that the world revolved around her and there was no reason she should not get everything she wished for. As she grew older her parents realized that they while they wanted her daughter to be happy they also wanted her to see that while she was privileged there was more to the world than just her whims. Tami was also coming to the age to be wed, now that she was a young lady. So along with her uncle and a few escorting guards she began visiting other villages and meeting new people. This travel made Tami rather lonely however, and soon she became very close to her uncle. Her uncle was one of the few who secretly practiced talking to the deceased and as they traveled he began teaching Tami his ways. She was a quick learner and was so happy to make her uncle proud. He also taught her how to defend herself now that they were outside of the protection of their home. She became rather skilled with kunai and developed incredibly accureate aim. She also learned the major pressure points so as to disable or knock someone unconscious if ever necessary. These were good skills for her to start with since she wasn't particularly strong, but as she trained with her uncle more she slowly became stronger and faster. It was the best time of her life; going to parties and socializing during the day and learning the ancient ways of her honored clan at night. Tami loved it all - until she caught her uncle talking to another nobleman about arraigned marriages. She felt horribly betrayed, like her uncle was trying to get rid of her, and ran away…and that was when she met him. To this day she didn’t know how or exactly where she ran into Eichi, only that she fell in love instantly. She learned a few things about him and decided that if she was going to be forced to wed it would have to be this boy. So naturally when he asked her to help him out she agreed without question. She returned to her uncle and began gathering information; which came almost second nature to her. Best of all though was the assurance that she would see Eichi again. He wasn’t exactly the touchy-feely type but Tami knew that given some time he would warm up to her and they would live happily ever after, when they were a little older, of course. Despite her love something instinctively held her back from telling him about her clan's ability, even though she sometimes talked to the dead to gather the information they asked her to retrieve. She swore to herself that she would tell him soon, but for some reason she couldn't bring herself to betray her uncle. But Tami always tries to push such troubling thoughts to the back of her mind, instead living in the moment and enjoying each day to the fullest. clan ability info, ( a form of necromancy ) ( allows user to speak to deceased with assistance of ceremonial artifacts; for example Tami's headpiece and gold beads - if preformed for too long creates great strain on user's body and mind ) ( known users; Tami and the uncle she is currently traveling with, assumed more ) [/style] |
