Sango's footsteps were light as she made her way out of one of many of Orochimaru's hideouts. She had been given a mission to destroy an oncoming onslaught of shinobi heading toward the base, and Orochimaru was concerned (or so she thought) that they knew where he was hiding at the moment.
The sky was clouded over, but it was still bright enough that Sango was forced to wear her eye cover. She didn't enjoy the piece of equipment much, but it did serve its purpose well. She longed to see the light of day just as others did, but because of her nearly-white eyes, they were too sensitive to be exposed to that harshness. She cursed silently before heading out into the open and began thinking about her mission.
She had never before met the Uchiha, even though she knew much about him from Kabuto and Orochimaru. Even some of the other Otogakure shinobi had seen him and commented that he was handsome, but that didn't matter to Sango. She simply wanted to put her skills to use and show the world that she could be as good a fighter as any man she opposed. In fact, she secretly hoped that her upcoming enemies would be formidable males that she could take down in front of this Sasuke, and he might report her strength to Orochimaru. After all, she had heard that he was quite close with the Sannin, and it may get her a promotion. She already had the rank of Jounin, but she craved more. She wanted to rise as high in the ranks as the legendary Sannin, and Sango respected that aspect of Orochimaru, though it was the only one. There was talk of him taking her jutsu as his own, but she cherished the kekkei genkai. This would hardly be her choice to make, though, she supposed. She would just have to become skilled enough to slaughter Orochimaru himself.
It was only a matter of time before she had crossed the border and made it well into the outskirts. Using her excellent hearing, she listened carefully to the sounds of her own footsteps' echos and, within moments, reached the planned meeting spot: a large boulder nestled in a clearing. She jumped atop the rock and sat down, legs crossed, and waited for her partner to arrive.

He opened his eyes and sat up. He turned around briefly to see Kabuto was watching him and giving him motions to get going. Sasuke paid no mind to him, but he did realize if he finished this quickly he could get back to his training. The fated day was soon coming upon him as he was meant to slay his brother, Itachi, and wasting time with these missions wasn't something he was keen to being appreciative of. But knowing he had to move out he did. As he headed out the room he was in he made sure he grabbed the kusanagi blade on the table. The cold look in his eyes didn't seem to faze Kabuto, but of it were anyone else they would have mostly run for their lives.
"Kabuto... Make sure you tell Orochimaru that my training will continue immediately once I return. And just because your his right hand it doesn't mean I won't cut you down" He said in a condescending tone. He noticed the dirty looks Kabuto always gave him since he would never call Orochimaru, Orochimaru-sama. But to Sasuke that meant close to nothing.
As he headed towards the exit he holstered his sheathed blade between the rope around his waist. Sasuke looked up at the sky and back down in front of him as exited the hideout and ventured into the forest. Little was on his mind but his revenge and he planned to keep it like that. For the past two and a half years he focused solely on dedicating his life to ending his brothers that he did not have time to think of anything else. Whenever he went out on his own all he would do was train, and the fruits of his labor was showing. He had grown immensely in technique and could hold his own with the current weakened Sannin. He knew training with him was a life or death battle and that's exactly how he wanted it.
But as he continued on his way, he could only wonder who this person he would be working with was. Sasuke didn't care for most of Orochimaru's subjects, except for the certain few he planned to form his group. She wasn't someone he knew so he could only wonder if she would hold him down. If she got in the way he might be forced to leave her behind. If she could prove useful he would have to try and recruit her. Knowing Orochimaru, he figured she must have some talent he could use for himself and that's what made things interesting. However, thinking about it wasn't going to help him decide any sooner, so he didn't and continued to press on.
As he finally saw the meeting point in site he slowed down. A female was in his line of sight so he presumed she was the person he was suppose to meet. She didn't look strong. It made him wonder why Orochimaru would send her on a mission with him. Hopefully this wasn't some training where he needed to handle everything himself. He headed towards her so they could get going.
"So your the one I'm supposed to work with. We should get going." He said nonchalantly. He didn't want to make friends with her. They needed to get going and she could brief him on the way. [/style]

Within a few moments, Sango heard the sound of footsteps along with a strong, steady chakra approaching. She could tell a few things from these two aspects: the monotonous tapping of the shinobi's sandals suggested that he was quite confident and the slower pace said he was cautious. If he was reckless and headstrong, the other would more than likely be jumping from limbs and traveling at a quicker pace. This was a sign of experience and a trait of someone who could serve as a leader. If this was the Sasuke that Sango was to work with, she already had a seed of respect planted for him.
The chakra that her heightened senses picked up showed that the other was in control. There was a rhythmic flow to the aura and it stayed contained enough that it would be difficult for many shinobi that weren't skilled in sensory to pick up. He could possibly hide his strength with a decent amount of training. Overall, this person was possibly more experienced than Sango herself, and it slightly shook her revolve. She would definitely have to prove herself to the other and show that she could indeed hold her own. If it turned out to be an opponent, however, Sango had faced a handful of such encounters before where she pushed herself too far and ended up being beaten. She was usually able to escape from the fight while hanging on to the bare minimum of chakra and blood needed to survive, but she quickly found some sort of target to feed from. This sustained her long enough to escape to a place where she was able to recuperate.
Not long after that, the figure came to the clearing and slowed its pace even more. This supported her idea that the other was cautious, and it was indeed a chakra that she had not encountered before. Upon further inspection and the sound of the voice, Sango quickly found that the person was a male, and his words suggested that he was, in fact, Uchiha Sasuke. With a nod, she slipped from her resting place and landed softly on the ground before falling into step beside him. The sounds of his motions kept her at a safe distance from him, and she matched his pace as to not assert any sort of dominance. She didn't know what he was capable of, nor had she any idea of his personality. She needed to assess the other before coming to any conclusions and act accordingly. If he was easy to work with and the goal was completed, she would chalk the mission up to a success. If not, it would be another session gone awry, and she would store his fighting style away in case they met again.
"Orochimaru-sama suspects that someone may know the location of a hideout," Sango stated, filling Sasuke in on the details of the mission in case he was unaware of them. "He wants us to take care of the problem." The goal itself seemed simple enough to achieve, but their success fell on whether or not the two could work together effectively as a team.

They knew nothing about each other, or rather he knew nothing about her so her effectiveness, in an all-rounded sense, was a mystery to him. It was a pain whenever Orochimaru requested these tasks when they took away from his training. Even though Sasuke was slightly bothered by this predicament he showed no signs of anguish on his face, he kept his level headed demeanour so the female ninja wouldn't try to figure him out. He was cautious around anyone and everyone, simply plotting in deep thought.
"Orochimaru-sama suspects that someone may know the location of a hideout," Sango stated, filling Sasuke in on the details of the mission in case he was unaware of them. "He wants us to take care of the problem."
He listened and wondered if any of that was true. Not many lived if they found his hideout since he would normally handle them himself, if not Kabuto would. If someone did find his hideout an he had to send out two of his own to settle it might mean that Sasuke would have to hasten his plan. He knew Orochimaru probably already knew he would try to betray him at some point, the only question was when.
"Do you know how many enemies we're suppose to be expecting?" Sasuke asked. It wasn't that he was worried it was more along the lines of him wanting their to be more opponents to test his limits.
Sasuke slowed down a bit so she could catch up to him. He decided for a brief moment he would work with her. She only had a support role in his mind if he actually took the lead. In all his life Sasuke was called a leader, a genius, and many other labels he didn't care to have. He had his own agenda but he knew stuff like this wasn't bad once in awhile, although he would get back to his training the minute this was over. But doing stuff like this reminded him of the old days, the days he aims to forget. Anytime his mind would become clouded from those thoughts he thought about his families massacre at the hand of one man, Uchiha Itachi.
As they continued their mission he became curious about the person who he knew nothing about. Why did Orochimaru take her in? Why was she chosen for this specific mission? How strong was her loyalty to Orochimaru? Sasuke was sure that if she proved worthy he would aim to coerce her into conspiring against Orochimaru with him. It wasn't a bad thing to have more people at his aid out of the three people he had his eyes on.
"I find it odd that you were picked for this mission. Could it be that you have talents that interest Orochimaru or are you just a lab rat being experimented on?" Sasuke commented with a small tone of disgust. He couldn't care less what her reasons were but he couldn't stand that people who could be of use to him might blindly stay with Orochimaru. [/style]

He wanted to know more about the mission than she had leaked. That was a good sign--it meant that he actually cared, more or less, about the mission. She didn't care about his motives for fighting, nor did she honestly want to hear them; she just needed to know if he had a level head, was able to think straight under pressure, and could fight well. His chakra remained undisturbed, so the first two were taken care of.
"As far as I know, it's a group about fifty strong, though they have no specific shinobi that stands out among them. They are seem rather mediocre as fighters." It was about as much as she knew as well, so she hoped that he wouldn't ask any more about the mission, or she would just have to admit defeat.
When the Uchiha asked about her, it was an understatement to say that she was surprised. He seemed like the calm, cool type that wouldn't care much for others or their private lives. She supposed her first impressions and the rumors she had heard about him weren't that accurate after all.
"Well," she began, beginning to sense the chakra of their victims, "I can tell you that after this battle is over. We're closing in on them. They're around thirty meters away."
This was going to be a real test of her abilities, and one way to show skill was actually not to kill the target. As difficult as it would be for Sango because she was hindered by the sunlight, she would still attempt to make this man see her prowess. He seemed like the type that would kill in cold blood, but it wasn't her problem. They would probably only be partners this one time, after all, and he could report any progress of her powers to Orochimaru. She was already a jounin, but that didn't mean she was the strongest. She still had quite a ways to go before she reached that level.
As much as she wished night would fall so she could show him her true abilities without the handicap of the eye cover, this would have to do. Sadly, she did not have long-ranged jutsu that would be appropriate for an attack like this; she was proficient in a genjutsu, but it was meant to strike fear into the enemy. If they fled and spread out, then it would just be more of a hassle for the pair. Instead, she decided to slow her pace even more, hoping that the Uchiha would follow suit unless he had a better plan. She wasn't much for strategy as she was for just getting the job done thoroughly. Their blood would provide more than enough sustenance to keep her going for a while, and draining the liquid to store in a bottle wasn't too much of a bad idea, either. She would merely have to toss a body over her shoulder and take it with her. She could come back for the rest. It would be easy to store it in a cool place in the hideout, and it would definitely help when she buckled down to create new jutsu. There were limitless possibilities with her kekkei genkai; she just needed to find creative new ways to exploit it.
