Background
Chōji Akimichi is part of Konohagakure's Akimichi clan. He was not the thinnest of children and was often ridiculed because of his excessive weight. One day, when the other kids refused to let Chōji play “ninja”, Shikamaru Nara stood up for him. This gave poor Chōji hope and him and Shikamaru grew an unbreakable bond.
When Chōji turned twelve years old, he joined the Ninja Academy. He often got in trouble for eating in class, but never the less, he managed to graduate. He placed into team 10, along with Shikamaru Nara and Ino Yamanaka. The team trained under the guidance of Asuma Sarutobi and, after many missions, was ready for the Chūnin exams.
The combination of Shika’s genius and Ino’s Shintenshin no Jutsu made quick work for the first phase’s “test”, however the trials of the second were not nearly as easy. Hours of looking for the needed scroll lead them to a battle between Sakura Haruno and the three Oto genin. Chōji was reluctant to step in and help the desperate Sakura, but after Zaku Abumi made a snide comment about his weight, he went beserk and attacked the Oto genin with all of his might. Team 10, however was no match against their fearsome foes, but they managed to hold in long enough for Sasuke Uchiha to wake up and save the day. The team somehow made it through and entered the third phase.
Tired and weak, the team now had to face the other genin who had passed in a one-one tournament. After many grueling matches, Chōji’s name was finally called. He faced off against Dosu Kinuta, one of the Oto ninja he had faced earlier in the exam. Dosu made quick work of the Akimichi, and Chōji was eliminated from the exams.
Shikamaru, Chōji, Neji, Kiba, and Naruto later teamed up together in order to bring Sasuke back to Konohagakure. At the start of the mission Chōji faced off against The Sound Four’s Jirōbō. Jiōbō proofed to be too much for the young Akimichi to handle. As a last resort, he used his clan’s three colored pills to convert all the calories in his body into chakra. With the enormous increase in strength, he was able to defeat the seemingly immortal Jiōbo. The pills, however had terrible side effects, causing Chōji to collapse and leaving him nearly dead. The Medical Corps. eventually came to his aid and he was back on his feet within a couple of days.
Sometime later Chōji improved his skills and was promoted to the rank of Chūnin.
Personality
Chōji is very caring, polite and kind hearted. He has an extraordinary passion for food, and becomes enraged whenever called “fat”. He is best friends with shikamaru, and would give his own life for him in a heartbeat.
Appearance
Chōji has long, spikey, brown hair. He has red swirl marks on both cheeks and, like all Akimichi, is "larger" than the average ninja.
He wears a red suit with armor covering his chest, biceps, and thighs. The armor has the Kanji for food written on the breastplate and he has an earring in each earlobe.
