Sango was raised to believe that she would become a mother. Every day, it was the same: cleaning, cooking, and inspecting her body for even the slightest thing that would make her unsuitable for the bearing of children. After all, with their chakra-blood mixture pulsing through their veins, the Ketsueki clan needed to take care of themselves. However, Sango had given all of that up. In fact, she altogether rejected the idea in time and became a powerful shinobi. So why in the hell was she here?
Standing in the darkness of one of the lair's basements, Sango faced a table. On its surface was a barely-flopping fish in the middle of a jumble of characters encircling it, then sprawling out. It was one of Sango's weaknesses from her early days: healing. All female Ketsueki members were expected to know how to heal themselves and others, especially since losing a good amount of blood was twice as much danger to them as other shinobi. The girls all knew how to heal from an early age, but Sango was too busy watching the males at night and copying their fighting techniques to learn something as mind-numbing as this. Thankfully, because she was in the dark, Sango was able to see clearly and had her eye cover stashed away in her hip bag.
After a few moments of deliberation, Sango hesitantly hovered her hands, one on top of the other, over the dying fish and furrowed her purple brows together. She pursed her lips and closed her eyes, preparing to focus her chakra into her palms.
"What am I thinking?" she muttered, dropping her hands back at her sides. "This is stupid! I'll never be able to get this down."
She began to walk away, but stopped near the door. She could still hear the fish slapping at the scroll futilely. The least she could do is put the thing out of its misery. Huffing stubbornly, she spun back around and stomped over to the fish and pulled a kunai from her bag. When she looked at the fish again, she set the knife on the table. Never before had she given in so easily, so why start now? She was Sango, for goodness' sake! She turned her entire family's expectations down, and now, she would give up on trying to heal a wounded fish?
Finally giving in, Sango pressed her hands back in position and closed her pale eyes, concentrating on her chakra. She could feel it circulating through her veins and, with some effort, managed to push it from her body and radiate it onto the animal. She could hear it flouncing around more vigorously now, and she continued flowing her life force into the fish but, after a few seconds, it stopped dead. Literally.
Sango opened her eyes to see that the fish had indeed stopped moving. Shaking her head, she tossed the corpse onto the floor and plunged her hand into a bucket near her feet, snatching a fresh one and laying it down in its cousin' place. "Well," she sighed, replacing her hands, "it's gonna be a long day."

It hadn't been long after the first fish that soon, Sango was going through a ton of the damned things. One after another, the fish flopped about with wide, terrified eyes while their gills flipped open and closed. Sango didn't mind their pain as much as she minded the complete drainage of her own chakra. With each dead specimen went a varying percentage of her life force, and once a nice-sized pile had formed at her booted formed at her feet, she was almost ready to give out. It wasn't like her to waste so much chakra on one jutsu, but she had time on her hands at the moment and needed to practice this skill so that she could be of further use to herself and those around her. A loss of blood meant a loss of chakra as well, and Sango couldn't live long by losing a good amount of either, much less both as was the case in most of her battles. Sighing to herself, Sango walked to another side of the room where a lone table bore a few bags and took one, then proceeded to fill that with the fish corpses. Once they were all up, she took her eye cover in the other hand and made her way back to the surface. Once she felt the pain behind her eyes from a hint of strong sunlight, she covered her sensitive eyes and used her other senses to navigate her toward the forest. She walked a good distance, set the bag down, and waited.
She was attempting to sniff out a potential victim for her Ketsueki fangs, but the rank stench of dead fish was overwhelming any nearby scent of blood. She had to navigate a few hundred yards away from it before it was merely a bad smell in the background and she could pick up any other scents well enough to distinguish them. It was honestly astounding how much better everything smelled out in the open air after being cooped up underground with all of her failed attempts at a basic healing technique.
Within moments, she caught the scent of blood on a passing breeze and made her way toward it while being careful to stay as silent as possible. Once she reached a decent distance, Sango halted and hid her chakra as to not be discovered. The other was definitely a shinobi, though he had either masked his chakra or was just flat-out weak. This was especially good for Sango since her drained chakra left her vulnerable to attack, and it was even better that she had not been sensed yet. After a few minutes of stalking this prey, Sango had confirmed that he was indeed alone and crouched into position before springing out and landing softly on the ground behind him. Still undetected, she grew and bore her fangs and, using her two most useful jutsu, sank her teeth into the boy's neck and began to fill herself with his blood. She could feel the iron-filled liquid spilling down her throat and melding with her chakra. It gave her an overwhelming sense of satisfaction and, once she had her fill, she began the most difficult part of feeding: stopping herself. She noticed that the stream of blood had indeed grown thinner, and she needed to let him go so she would not take his life; however, the urge to continue this venture was strong enough to keep her fangs buried into his flesh. After an internal struggle, she was finally able to release herself and heard him fall to the ground with a strong thud. She quickly wiped her mouth and licked it clean, then turned and rushed back toward the hideout with her chakra completely replenished.

Otogakure.
Kisuke's travels led him here. He had planned to visit this village once however.Of course it wasn't actually a village but rather a collection of hideouts. Kisuke's information had led him to this area where he knew a hideout resided. Kisuke's plan was to build his own village, so he had to see what a fairly new village looked like. And thus the reason he was traveling through the land of Sound towards Otogakure. It was a new village created by Orochimaru. Orochimaru was one of the legendary sannin's trained by the third Hokage. He had left the village and made his own village in the Land of Rice now named the Land of Sound. According to the reports, Orochimaru was conducting his forbidden experiments in this village.
Kisuke walked through the silent forest. It was eerily quiet. Kisuke had superior chakra control and through it he masked his chakra ability. Normal shinobi did not have the skill to sense chakra, however he was not so certain of the experimental shinobi Orochimaru was creating. He walked quietly through the grass. His training as an ANBU allowed him to walk quietly like an assassin. Then suddenly a light stench hit his sensitive nose.
A slight scent of blood. He was still a few miles away from the hideout. He kept walking and the stench became stronger... until he noticed someone unconscious on the ground. He walked towards the person and examined him. A normal male human. He seemed normal. Completely nor--!
"Fang bites...?"
What was going on? There were two small holes on the side of the man's neck. They looked like fang bites. It would have been normal to see a man attacked by a fanged beast in the forest but this was different. It was two perfect holes with a strong scent of blood. His blood was sucked out. Vampire bats? No. They were not common in this area. Was this an experiment of Orochimaru?. Kisuke sighed a breath of relief. Upon closer examination, Kisuke observed that the boy was still alive albeit barely breathing. He couldn't take the man to a hospital either. There were none around. Kisuke carefully lifted the man and set him against a tree trunk. The young boy's fate would be determined by his own will to live.
Kisuke continued to walk towards the hideout, his senses on full alert now. Whatever attacked the boy might attack him again for a second feeding. What was Orochimaru creating? A shinobi that can suck the blood out of it's opponents? Maybe the blood was used for DNA to create clones or other experimented monsters. Who knows and who cares. Kisuke was only there to examine how Orochimaru was running his "village".
As he came closer to where the hideout is supposedly, another strong stench hit him. Kisuke was expecting it to be blood or something monstrous but no... it was fish? A strong sense of dead fish. What was going on? There was no sea nearby. He followed the stench and saw a single lair. Kisuke proceeded into the lair and started walking down, towards the basement level where the stench was the strongest.

She stopped and covered her nose to keep the smell from making her woozy, and her heightened senses weren't helping. She had been down there for so long that she had grown accustomed to the smell, but now that she had been away from it and gotten some fresh air, the stench was like a nice slap in the face.
Swallowing back the disgusting taste forming in her mouth, Sango went down and removed her eye cover once she was properly submerged in the dim torch lights that lined the halls. The scent radiated from the lower levels where she had been training, but it still was strong enough to make her want to wait until it aired while she took a shower to rid her own body of the stench.
As she meandered through the halls, she felt the presence of an unidentified chakra. Quickly, she opened one of the wooden doors and closed it without more than a barely-heard click. Her defense was immediately put up, and she focused her chakra to her hands and feet to scale the wall and positioned herself at the space just above the door frame. Since her hair was so long and hung well down into sight if the door was to her opened, she pulled a band from her bag and braided it with lithe fingers before pulling it all back into a sort of ponytail-bun that kept it out of the way. As much as she loved her long, beautiful lavender hair, it was a liability during battle.
How did this person find the hideout, anyways? They hadn't advertised its location at all; in fact, they had done their best to keep it hidden from anyone. This person was either skilled or unlucky, and Sango hoped that it was the latter. Even though she was at full strength, she didn't enjoy fighting unless she needed to prove herself, and her abilities relied mostly on close-range attacks. She sensed that this person was male, so he was most likely physically stronger than her, and it put her at a disadvantage already; however, she would fight until she had shown that she was indeed talented in the art of battle then try to make an escape if necessary.
What would be the best course of action against this possible foe? The first thing that came to mind was her Fast Fang technique. She was set to execute a surprise attack, and this would allow her to drop down and use her agility and powerful fangs to pierce the victim and drain blood in the process. This would be effective if she knew the target was after her, but as it stood, she had no idea who this person was. Red Demon was another option, but it would only work if the man saw her. That left her usual path: the Vampire Bite followed by Scarlet Ecstasy. It was what she used when feeding, but seeing as how she had just had her fill of blood and was fully restored, it would be easier to let go on the target when necessary after he was entranced by the next attack.
Of course, any of these would be a good action for her to make. Until she was found, she would merely keep herself latched to the wall in anticipation. |
