Hunched half over, with her hands on her knees, Hinata gasped heavily for air through an open mouth. Deactivating her family's famed kekkei genkai, she closed her eyes, squinting against the sting of sweat that curved down her cheeks to lightly irritate her pupils. Inhaling deeply, she closed her dry mouth to swallow briefly before trying to catch her winded breath.
As her heart beat gradually slowed closer to it's normal pace, she blinked her eyes open slowly, tilting her head back on her neck to stare up at the training posts standing tall despite generations of shinobi trying to chip away at them. Unmovable and almost defiant in the sun bleached clearing. She swallowed again.
… She had heard the rumors that he was back; that Naruto Uzumaki had returned to the Hidden Leaf Village and was back on active duty. Even though she hadn't seen him yet, it was... oddly welcoming to know that he was home again (somewhere buried with in her that she didn't really want to examine). He was probably glad too, at least she imagined he would be. She could just see him leaping about with his usual energy, ready to show the world all that he had learned. She bet he had grown a lot.
Part of her wondered if she had changed in the two years as well. She knew that it was a self-obsessed thought to focus on herself, but she still couldn't help but wonder it. She certainly had tried to... surely she had changed a little, even if she wasn't where she should be, right?
Hinata straightened, ignoring the way her undershirt clung awkwardly to her torso like a stiff second skin. Pushing errant stray strands of her hair out of her face, she wiped the gathered perspiration off of her forehead, studying the familiar training posts with a renewed spirit. Rolling back her shoulders, she fell into the familiar stance that she had been drilled with since she was old enough to stand, Hinata took a deep breath, focusing once more.
”Byakugan!”
